Organisers of the Reading Festival have defended sound levels at this year’s event.
The move comes after fans complained about the sound on the main stage being too quiet for some performances.
Reading and Leeds Festivals organiser Melvin Benn blamed the problems on the weather.
He said: “The council set exactly the same level that they always set, but due to the weather this year, the sound stayed low.”

So, as we’ve tied up Reading and Leeds, and relaunched Marshals we thought we should let you know that we’ll be playing our first proper UK GIG on September 30th.
The occasion is to celebrate this year’s Q Awards, and we’ll be playing at the Kentish Town Forum in London.
We have tickets set aside for Pioneers members, which will go on sale next week (Monday September 1) at 9am. Tickets will be priced at £25 each, and each member will be eligible to buy two tickets for DOWNSTAIRS STANDING from this link.
PLEASE NOTE : These tickets are limited, and are first come first serve. Tickets are not guaranteed so please be quick.

Any new members joining after 5pm BST this Friday (29 August) won’t be eligible for the members tickets, though general ticket will be also be available.

That brings me to the band whose song titles have graces every opening section of this blog. Bloc Party were the best band of the weekend. They were the best band of last year’s main stage also, but this time they are one off the headline slot.
Kele speaks to the crowd like human beings, plays old hits like he wrote them only yesterday, and he never once feels the need to indulge in rock star posturing or references to Leeds being better than Reading (leave that to the stage compere). (more…)

Bloc Party revealed their ambition to headline Reading And Leeds Festival during their set on the Main Stage at Leeds Festival tonight (August 24).
“This is the last time you’ll see us for a while. Hopefully next time you see us at this festival we’ll be headlining,” singer Kele Okereke told the crowd before final song ‘Helicopter’. (more…)

Got back from Reading not long ago. Bloc played a stormer! They better well be headlining next year!
The sound quality at Reading was superb. I’m so glad that I decided to go, because everything went off without a hitch. I was on the barrier, normally a scary place, but there were no knobends in the crowd this time around…
I couldn’t see Matt from where I was, but could just about see Kele/Russell ok. (more…)
Band play first show since third album’s shock release
Bloc Party played Reading Festival tonight (August 23) just days after releasing third album ‘Intimacy’.
The band released the album as a download on Thursday (21), making their Main Stage appearance their first gig since it became available. (more…)
