Bloc Party star helps band cause a storm down under

The Teenagers’ first Australian gig last night (June 12) resulted in a mammoth stage invasion.

Lead singer Quentin Delafon helped fans up onto the stage before an epic rendition of ‘Homecoming’ to finish the bands set at The Met, Brisbane.

Following the song there was a brief interlude as crew members had to reassemble the drum kit and various make stands that were left strewn all over the stage following the 50 or so audience members that had taken over.

The band, accompanied by Bloc Party’s Matt Tong on drums, were excited to be in Australia, Delafon stating as much in between every song and high-fiving audience members.

“This is our first time in Australia,” Delafon said after opener ‘Starlett Johansson’. “We love you already.”

Following support from Flying Foxes, The Teenagers took to the stage just after midnight, slightly later than billed, although this did not put the Australian crowd off.

Held in conjunction with Vice magazine, the gig had the fashionistas of Brisbane out in force as a bar 11,000 miles away from London soon resembled deepest darkest Hoxton.

The French trio clearly have a huge following down under as photographers crowded the stage to get a glimpse of bassist Michael Szpiner in his Nirvana T-shirt and lead guitarist Dorian Dumont in his now accustomed My Chemical Romance top.
